Defence and Space

From the Earth to the sky, RCS Titanium springs reduce weight and increase speed, range, agility and payload.

Renton Coil Spring Co. has been a premier supplier of springs to the Space and Defense industries for over 50 years. We have the capability of providing spring and wire form solutions for nearly all aerospace needs. We work with a wide variety of materials including several Stainless steel, Inconel, and Titanium alloys. We are an engineering oriented company and pride ourselves in being in the forefront of spring design and manufacturing technology. We are capable of extensive design development and testing of both springs and spring assemblies.

In the defense sector, reduced weight translates into increased speed, range and agility. RCS has been involved with numerous military programs. The C17 program was the first program that exclusively used RCS built titanium springs. More recently, RCS has helped develop weight reducing designs for the F22, JSF and KAI T50.

In space applications, weight is even more critical than other aerospace applications. Every lb reduced from the vehicle is an extra lb of valuable payload capability! Space applications can typically absorb 10- 100 times the cost increase for weight reductions in comparison to commercial aviation. Many spring materials lose ductility rapidly at the reduced temperatures seen in typical space service. Titanium however can be used effectively at service temperatures between – 200°F and +660°F.
